Labor Day - Water Quality Awareness with Bilgee the Bilge Pad
Events &
Opportunities
Partnerships
The Lake Berryessa Watershed Partnership organizes a group to visit Lake Berryessa on Labor
Day to raise awareness about recyclable bilge pads for inboard motors on boats.  Bilgee the
Bilge Pad spends the day going from each of the seven resorts, visiting with lake users and
passing out the recyclable bilge pads.  There are containers at every resort where you can find
replacement bilge pads, as well as red canisters to place your used pads.  One bilge pad can
generally last an entire boating season, and help catch leaking oil before it reaches the lake.
Bilgee's helpers also went around talking to the kids at the lake about water protection, and
then after pledging to be water protectors, the kids were given temporary tatoo badges.
Marina Days
This is another event where the Lake Berryessa
Watershed Partnership takes time to talk with some
of the many lake users about ways to keep Lake
Berryessa clean.  Pamphlets were made available, as
well as informational posters.  Water protector badges
were also given out to the kids who promised to keep
the lake clean.
Below is an informational banner that was put on display at many of the events put on by the Lake
Berryessa Watershed Partnership, to remind users of the lake that the water from Lake Berryessa
is a drinking source for many people.
Keep the Lake Healthy:
1. Put refuse in garbage cans and recycling bins NOT the lake
2. Use a toilet–it’s the ONLY place to go
3. Use the FREE boat bilge pad exchange program
4. Don’t overfill your gas tank
If you wouldn’t put it in your cup, don’t put it in the lake!

This message is brought to you by the Lake Berryessa Watershed Partnership, a
collaborative of agencies, non-governmental organizations and private citizens
dedicated to protecting Lake Berryessa’s water quality.
